Volunteer fire department rescues young fox from Schwechat!

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the Baden-Stadt volunteer fire department was alerted to an animal rescue at 6:03 p.m. The location was near Pergersteg in Schwechat, where a young fox was found in the Schwechat riverbed. Residents noticed the disoriented fox and informed the city police. They promptly called the fire department to act quickly and help the frightened animal. The emergency services arrived at the scene at 6:04 p.m.

The fox was unable to find a way out and hid in a niche in the wall. To carry out the rescue, the firefighters were equipped with waders and a small animal carrying basket. They managed to secure the shy young fox using an animal snare before carefully placing him in the carrying basket.

The fire department carried out the rescue operation with great care. The fox was pulled ashore with a rope and, after a successful rescue, was taken to the Teesdorf Veterinary Center, where it could receive medical care. The entire operation lasted about an hour. The fire department thanked the Baden city police for their excellent cooperation and important support during the operation. This once again illustrates how important cooperation between different animal protection agencies is.

Commitment to animals in need

The incident also shows the need for organizations like TERRA MATER e.V., which look after injured, abused or abandoned animals nationwide. TERRA MATER operates a mobile animal rescue operation that operates around the clock to help animals in need, including both large and small animals, as well as farm and wild animals. Since 2000, there has been a dedicated animal emergency number that is available seven days a week and 24 hours a day in order to be able to respond quickly to emergencies.

In recent years, TERRA MATER has carried out numerous operations in collaboration with various authorities, including rescuing injured birds of prey and abandoned pets. The work aims to protect and restore the well-being of animals, which often suffer from neglect or mistreatment. The initiative sets an important example in animal rights protection and animal care in the region and beyond.

The commitment of fire departments and animal protection organizations makes it clear that animal protection is very important in our society and that action must be taken quickly when animals are in danger.
