Fire brigade festival in Kolshorn: marriage proposal in the middle of the competition!

On May 24, 2025, the eagerly awaited “Kolshorn Moor Competitions” event took place in Kolshorn, a district of Lehrte in the Hanover region. Organized by the Kolshorn fire department, eight different fire department groups from the city of Lehrte took part in the competitions. The day was characterized by bright sunshine and numerous spectators who gathered in front of the old fire station to watch the exciting competitions.

The competitions included several challenges, including a box-stacking skill exercise and a traditional Heimberg-Fuchs firefighting performance comparison. The participants had to simulate a firefighting attack in which water was taken from an open body of water. The implementation with three jet pipes, which had to be fast and operate error-free, was particularly demanding.

Competitive results

The results of the competitions were clear and clear:

  • 1. Platz: Feuerwehr Kolshorn
  • 2. Platz: Feuerwehr Sievershausen
  • 3. Platz: Feuerwehr Lehrte

These placings reflect the hard work and dedication of the participants and create a friendly, competitive spirit in the region.

A romantic moment

A highlight of the day was not only the competition itself, but also an emotional event that touched the hearts of everyone present. During the events, firefighter Thomas Stielau proposed to his girlfriend Jennifer Backhaus. Jennifer, also a member of the Kolshorn fire department, was visibly overwhelmed and accepted the application. To celebrate this special moment, fellow firefighters released heart balloons into the sky, making the day even more memorable.

The Kolshorn moor competitions not only offered a framework for top sporting achievements, but also for personal highlights that strengthen and connect the fire brigade community.

These types of competitions are not only important in Lehrte, but help promote the fire service network on a global level. The German Fire Brigade Association has announced that Berlin will host the 18th International Fire Brigade Competitions and the 25th International Youth Fire Brigade Meeting in 2026, with over 3,500 participants from more than 30 nations. This major event will set an example for international cooperation in the fire service and offer further networking opportunities, as verbandsbuero.de reports.
