Bomb threats in Graz: Schools under alarm – police give the all-clear!
In Styria there have once again been worrying bomb threats at several schools in Graz. On Monday afternoon, the police gave the all-clear and confirmed that there were no immediate dangers for the students and teaching staff. This worrying development happened parallel to a cultural and sporting weekend in the region: the volleyball teams from Bad Radkersburg and Hartberg celebrated impressive victories, while a concert by Alice Merton took place at the Kunsthaus Weiz. Details about these events are provided in the My district daily review.
Innovative training for social pedagogy
Caritas Steiermark is bringing a breath of fresh air to the region's education with the introduction of a new school for social education, which will start in Graz from the 2025/26 school year. This educational institution, known as BASOP (Educational Institute for Social Education), will be the first of its kind in the country and will graduate with a high school diploma. In addition to solid theoretical lessons, students will also gain practical experience in social professions. According to Nora Tödtling-Musenbichler, director of Caritas Steiermark, there is an acute need for qualified social workers in the region, as around 15 positions are advertised every year and there are currently around 30 open positions that are waiting for this qualification Caritas Steiermark reports.
In addition to the presentation of BASOP, the previously unnamed path from the school building to Hasnerplatz was inaugurated as Cäcilia-Kappel-Weg. Cäcilia Kappel, the pioneer in social services in Styria, has made a significant impact through her work in training and supporting families. Their vision and commitment to the education of social workers have paved fundamental paths for the development of social care in the region. She left a lasting legacy that will live on in the new training facility.
