Meeting weekend in Würzburg: Experience a religious community!

An important event is coming up in the Diocese of Würzburg: The Bonifatiuswerk invites you to a weekend of encounters in the Burkardushaus from May 23rd to 25th, 2025. The Community of Sant’Egidio will give an introductory guest lecture under the motto “Peace and human dignity – the Church can give hope even today”. The work of Sant'Egidio in Würzburg and its numerous projects that aim to strengthen the Christian faith and provide hope in difficult times are highlighted. In addition to church services, prayers and cultural offerings, the weekend's attractions also include discussions about how faith can be lived and promoted. Registrations are possible until March 31, 2025, as noted on the Bonifatiuswerk website.

50 years of Sant’Egidio in Würzburg

The Community of Sant’Egidio celebrated its 50th birthday in Würzburg as part of a festive commemorative event. In a moving speech, the new Bishop Franz Jung praised the tireless work of the community, which was the first of its kind outside Italy to be founded in Würzburg in the early 1980s. Bishop Jung emphasized that Sant'Egidio plays a crucial role in its mission by building bridges with the less privileged people of society, without prejudice and without long discussions. This immediate willingness to help is a central feature of the community, which is also in demand today, especially in times when people are often trapped in their own world.

After the solemn service, the anniversary continued in the community center with a colorful celebration that included all age groups and social classes. The anniversary celebration impressively showed how Sant'Egidio would like to continue to actively contribute to promoting a culture of friendship and coexistence in Würzburg in the coming years. These initiatives are not only locally important, but also represent a valuable contribution to an open society, as highlighted on the Sant'Egidio website, which highlights their shared history and commitment to peace and charity.
