30 years of Germeringer Insel: A strong network for the community!

Germeringer Insel recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and looks back on three decades of successful social work. The institution, which acts as a central contact point for social issues in Germering, has developed into an important network since its founding. Almost all of the city's citizens know the island, which was brought into being 30 years ago through the initiative of the former social affairs officer Friedl Off. Many offers of help already existed at that time, but they were often isolated from each other. The aim of the island was to bundle these skills and make them directly accessible to those seeking advice, reports the Weekly Gazette.

Networking and engagement

The anniversary was celebrated in the multi-generational house “Zenja”, where the island is also located. Various social services, such as the AWO and the social service, are located here, which has improved the networking of help offers. Mayor Andreas Haas praised the island's work and emphasized that it is an “epitome of network and commitment”. The new director Anna Etzold, who has been in office since April 2024, is also optimistic about the future and wants to expand the island's digital presence without neglecting the importance of personal contact. “Come by and shape the future of Germering with us,” she urged those present, according to the report Mercury.

The variety of fields of activity ranges from advice to the organization of courses to volunteer agencies, which illustrates the numerous volunteers who shape social interaction in Germering. The faces of the volunteers were presented on a photo wall, encouraging visitors to get involved too. This celebration not only celebrated the existence of Germering Island, but also the spirit of solidarity that binds the community together.
