Pierce Brosnan rules out return as 007 – who will be the new one?
Pierce Brosnan, who portrayed the iconic agent James Bond from 1995 to 2002, has made it clear that he is not interested in returning to the role. In a recent interview, the 71-year-old actor said: “That’s another man’s job now.” Brosnan, known for films such as GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough, is flattered by the support he has received from fans who want the aged Bond to return. But this idea remains unlikely, despite the numerous votes for Brosnan.
His next project will feature him in Guy Ritchie's TV series "Mobland" in the role of crime boss Conrad Harrigan, with a German release on May 30th. The search for a new James Bond actor has become more important after Daniel Craig left the role in 2021's No Time to Die. Brosnan emphasizes that he has no interest in who will be his successor and wishes the new actor good luck.
Pierce Brosnan's past as James Bond
The story of Brosnan's entry as Bond is dramatic. He was originally the producers' first choice, but was unable to accept immediately due to commitments. These circumstances led to Timothy Dalton's 1987 debut with The Living Daylights. Brosnan's first film, GoldenEye, was finally released on November 13, 1995, followed by Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and The World is Not Enough (1999), before he left the role with Die Another Day in 2002.
New beginning for the James Bond series
Current developments in the James Bond series could show new directions. In February, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson announced that they had handed over creative control of the franchise to Amazon MGM Studios. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, who previously oversaw projects such as the “Spider-Man” films and the “Harry Potter” series, have been hired for the upcoming reboot.
Amazon's $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM could take the franchise in new directions. There is currently no confirmed start date or framework for production of the next Bond film, and the question of who will take on the role of the next James Bond remains open.
The future of the James Bond universe is as exciting as ever as fans prepare for a new era in the world of 007.
