King Charles Apple Music playlist: Kylie Minogue and RAYE

When King Charles gets up in the morning, what tunes does he choose to start his day? According to a new Apple Music show and the playlist he curated, it's a mix of different music genres and decades - from reggae icon Bob Marley to current Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter RAYE.

The importance of music to King Charles

"Music has had a huge meaning for me throughout my life. And I know that many others have too," the King said in his opening remarks in the program, which was recorded at Buckingham Palace and will be broadcast on March 10 to mark Commonwealth Day.

Emotional connection to music

“It has the remarkable ability to bring back happy memories from the deepest recesses of our minds, comfort us in sad times, and transport us to distant places,” he explains in an Apple Music press release. "But perhaps, most importantly, it can lift our spirits so much, and even more so when it puts us in a celebratory mood together. In other words, it brings us joy."

Artists and songs in the playlist

His Apple playlist also includes household names like Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones and Davido. In addition to the music itself, the king shares "anecdotes about his encounters with some of the featured artists and explains why the songs form the soundtrack of his life," as noted in the press release.

Video message and music streaming

In a video message posted on Apple's website, Charles explains his love of music, set to footage of a royal brass band playing an excerpt of Bob Marley's "Could You Be Loved" in front of Buckingham Palace.

Listeners can tune in on Apple Music 1 on both Monday and Tuesday.
