HLW Spittal starts exciting fair trade project with Weltladen!

In Spittal, a remarkable social project was launched at the HLW. The students in the final year of the new technical school for social professions work in cooperation with the Weltladen Spittal and dedicate themselves to the topics of fair trade and global children's and women's rights in a special workshop. On November 22nd, the students took part in a workshop organized by teachers Amata Reiner and Gernot Tischler. Sylvia Auer, the chairwoman of the Weltladen association, led the exciting event together with Hannelore Hecher, which was intended to raise awareness of the origins of cocoa, coffee and bananas meinkreis.at reported.

The project not only includes theoretical discussions, but also includes practical sales campaigns. Fairtrade chocolate was sold at the HLW's 50th anniversary celebration to support school projects in Madagascar. The current focus is on selling mango products, the proceeds from which will benefit children in the Philippines, as project coach Reiner explained. Another step includes a field trip to the World Shop, where students will deepen their knowledge and continue working on their project. This initiative fits with the strategy of HLW, which has been promoting the EU sustainability goals since 2018 under the leadership of Director Adolf Lackner, with issues such as climate protection and equality playing a central role.

Students will also form expert groups that will share their knowledge with other classes. This is intended to help create a better understanding of social justice and sustainable consumption. This is not only an opportunity to anchor learning in practice, but also an opportunity for students to actively engage in global issues, which is significantly encouraged by HLW's initiative, such as CPR hospital further noted.
