Strache starts again in Vienna: Is he setting the course for success?
A comeback is imminent: Heinz-Christian Strache, the former head of the FPÖ and former vice-chancellor, wants to run again in the upcoming Vienna elections on April 27th. He has collected the necessary support signatures and will start the race with his team “Team HC Strache”. According to the “Salzburger Nachrichten” he managed to mobilize the required 100 votes in all 17 constituencies in time, just a few hours before the deadline. Strache's goal is to gain a place in the Vienna city parliament, which functions as both a local council and a state parliament.
In 2020, Strache failed when he almost ran as he only received 3.27 percent of the vote and clearly missed the five percent threshold. Despite this defeat, his team has now gained a foothold in some district parliaments. Strache is determined to take advantage of his chance this time and appealed to voters in an urgent social media posting: “Vienna needs your quick help NOW to save and protect our hometown!”, how the press reported.
A call for support
Strache promises his supporters not only a signed autograph card, but also an invitation to a special event with free beer. This move is intended to encourage voters to give him their support while counteracting the bad memories of the failed 2019 Ibiza video that led to his expulsion from the FPÖ. With his slogan “Go for the original – it doesn’t get any better!” Strache hopes to regain the trust of voters and be successful this time.
