Women's power in the Ehrbar Saal: First New Year's concert with a big program!

On January 1, 2025, the Ehrbar Saal in Vienna will be the venue for an extraordinary concert: “La Philharmonica”, an ensemble of talented musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic, will present an impressive program that focuses exclusively on works by female composers. This is a clear call to appreciate often overlooked musical contributions, according to a press release. At 4:00 p.m. the works of Leopoldine Blahetka, Constanze Geiger and Mathilde Kralik will be heard, along with selected pieces by the great jubilarian Johann Strauss, whose 200th birthday will be celebrated in 2025. The idea for this special concert came from the musicologist Irene Suchy and was brought to life by Cathrin Chytil, the artistic director of the Ehrbar Saal.

Unique ensemble with its own style

The ensemble “La Philharmonica” consists of six musicians, complemented by a double bassist, and combines the sounds of string and woodwind instruments to develop their own, distinctive style. The repertoire ranges from classical Viennese dance music to opera classics and modern film music compositions. This New Year's concert is not only a musical highlight, but also the start of a cycle of three concerts that focus on the virtuosity and creativity of female composers. “We want to set an example with this event,” explains Chytil, who works passionately to promote talented female musicians.

This concert will be an unforgettable experience for all music lovers and supporters of women in the classical music scene. The Ehrbar Saal, located at Mühlgasse 30 in the 4th district, awaits a large number of guests who can look forward to an impressive program that celebrates the diversity and richness of musical works by women ORF reported.
