Celebration of tradition: Radmer celebrates a worthy St. Barbara celebration in 2024

On Sunday the traditional St. Barbara celebration took place in Radmer and Vordernberg, which was dedicated to St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners. Harald Heupl performed the leather jump in the Gasthaus zum Erzberg and was ceremoniously accepted into the miners' class. The celebrations began with the ritual of “Gänzn Wassern”, where the miners were thanked with a schnapps, while the rest was poured onto the square to ask for a rich harvest, like My district reported.

The event began in Vordernberg on November 30, 2024 with the arrival of the guests of honor in the Barbara Halls. The procession with torches to the parish church was accompanied musically by the Archduke Johann traditional costume band. During St. Barbara's Mass, the deceased miners were honored and the relic of St. Barbara was exposed. The highlight of the evening was the leather jump, where deserving members were honored. A new type of Barbara beer was also tapped. This goes hand in hand with the long-standing tradition of the Knappen from Vordernberg, which was founded 95 years ago Knappen Vordernberg reported.

What is particularly notable about both celebrations is the deep roots of customs and traditions in the region, which looks back on a long history of mining. The leather jump symbolizes not only the circumscription of new miners, but also the preservation of these important cultural practices. In Radmer, Mayor Gerhard Winter emphasized the importance of this tradition in times of change.
