Bruck Advent got off to a festive start: 20 years full of tradition and music!
In a festive atmosphere, the “Brucker Advent” was ceremoniously opened on December 5, 2024 on the main square by Mayor Gerhard Weil (SPÖ). This popular tradition is being celebrated for the 20th time this year and attracts numerous visitors. Organizer Renate Bogensperger, who also belongs to the SPÖ, explained that this year the event has found a new location in the inner courtyard of the town hall and the main square in front of it. The musical accompaniment was provided by the Bruck brass band, which provided atmospheric sounds and put the visitors in the Christmas spirit NOEN reports.
The history of Bruck an der Leitha
Bruck an der Leitha is not only a lively place today, but also looks back on a multi-faceted history. The town was mentioned in a document in 1074 as “Aschirichesprucca” and developed quickly under the protection of Prugg Castle in the north of the town. This place has experienced political and military importance, including the Ottoman sieges that struck the city several times. Despite these challenges, Bruck thrived and was a strategic point on the border between what was then Ostarrîchi (Austria) and Hungary, as on Wikipedia described.
Over the years, Bruck experienced numerous changes, including the granting of town charter in 1239. The city was also the scene of significant conflicts that significantly influenced its development. The historic Trinity Column, built in 1694, still stands as a memorial today. This rich history is part of the cultural heritage that makes the city and the Advent market all the more important.
