13-year-old flees from police and causes fatal accident!

On March 30, 2025, a serious car accident occurred in Vienna caused by a 13-year-old driver. According to a report by the Small newspaper Police officers wanted to stop the vehicle for a check, but the teenager fled and committed numerous traffic violations. He exceeded the speed of 110 km/h in the local area and drove without braking towards a patrol car, which had to take evasive action.

The driver finally lost control of the vehicle on Nordbahnstrasse. The car crashed into three parked cars, rolled over and came to rest on its roof. Three of the five occupants fled on foot in an unknown direction, while two 13-year-olds, who are Syrian nationals, remained injured at the scene of the accident. They received emergency medical care from the Vienna professional rescue service and were taken to a hospital.

The circumstances of the accident

The vehicle and its license plate had previously been stolen during a break-in at a car repair shop in Liesing. Several charges were brought against the unknown driver, including negligent bodily harm, aggravated coercion, resistance to state authority and dangerous endangerment of physical safety.

The accident statistics, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office summarized, shows that traffic accidents like this represent relevant aspects of traffic safety. Data about accidents, those involved and their causes are crucial for taking structural measurements in transport policy and infrastructure.

Young drivers in focus

ADAC accident research has been analyzing the safety situation of young drivers for years. Studies have shown that 18 to 24 year olds cause twice as many accidents as older road users. Excessive speed and insufficient experience are among the most common causes, such as the data stored on the site ADAC are published.

The analysis also shows that 29% of accidents are caused by young drivers alone, often through overtaking errors or inattentive driving. The majority of accidents involve errors when turning or crossing. In summary, these findings directly affect the risk of accidents and thus also the road safety measures, especially with regard to younger road users.
