Cardiac catheter laboratory in Waldshut: A look behind the scenes!

An exciting look behind the scenes of cardiology at the Hochrhein Clinic: 20 participants were able to take part in the “Südkurier opens doors” campaign at the cardiac catheter laboratory in Waldshut! Her parting words after the fascinating tour were clear: “Hopefully we won’t see each other here again!” And for good reason - the visitors do not come as patients, but out of curiosity about state-of-the-art cardiac medicine.

The team, led by Johannes Bilger, the senior physician at the cardiology clinic, provided a deep insight into the treatment methods for cardiovascular problems. Seeing how cardiac emergencies such as pulmonary embolisms are treated not only brought insight but also confidence in the expertise of cardiologists. The technology in use today exceeds anything previously imagined - from minimally invasive procedures to state-of-the-art devices that ensure patient health.

State-of-the-art technologies in use

The latest procedures such as rotablation, which eliminate calcification in the blood vessels, and modern stents, which drastically reduce the risk of artery narrowing, were impressively presented. The audience listened spellbound as the new chief physician Simone Normann explained how, thanks to improved materials and medications, patients can now be treated in a much less invasive manner. The applications are not only efficient, but also safe - implants such as pacemakers now have batteries with a lifespan of up to 15 years.

A highlight was the subsequent tour of the cardiac catheterization laboratory, where the participants were able to put on particularly heavy lead aprons to find out how challenging the work is for the specialists. It became clear once again: The cardiological treatment methods are not only technically advanced, they are also teamwork that requires commitment and empathy. At the end of the informative afternoon, participants went home full of new knowledge and a great feeling of confidence. The heart beats strong on the High Rhine!
