Union Matrei unleashes a scoring frenzy: 3-0 in their first home game!

Union Matrei got off to an impressive start to the season on August 9, 2025. In the first home game of the Carinthian League, the Matreians defeated KAC 1909 3-0. Around 600 spectators came to the stadium to watch the game and witnessed a dominant performance from the hosts. Coach Sven Lovrić's team started at a high pace, while KAC initially had difficulty finding their way into the game. Enrico Schubert tried his luck in the 11th minute, but only hit the outside post.

In the 20th minute, Union Matrei took the lead when Luca Ronacher confidently converted a foul penalty. Shortly afterwards, Schubert scored an impressive goal from 25 meters that landed in the right corner of the cross. After the break, however, Matrei suffered a setback: captain Jonathan Panzl was injured, which affected the team's flow of the game. The KAC 1909 players became increasingly frustrated and received several yellow cards. In the 85th minute, Benjamin Ćosić increased the score to 3-0 after a quick counterattack, thus securing a convincing start to the new season for Matrei.

The situation in the Carinthian league

With this victory, Union Matrei follows FC WR Nußdorf/Debant, who suffered a bitter 1-2 defeat in another game against SVG Bleiburg. Despite more play and better chances, Nußdorf was unable to put the ball into the net and failed several times against the aluminum. In stoppage time, controversial refereeing decisions decided the match when a penalty was whistled against Nußdorf, securing victory for Bleiburg. The player Alexander Simić was shown a red card due to this situation. After the game, coach Sven Lovrić was satisfied with the performance, but pointed out that many mistakes had to be corrected.

The situation in the Carinthian league is currently exciting. The relegation between the runners-up in the lower league West and East is a challenge that the Iseltal team mastered amazingly by beating St. Michael/Lav. enforced. Sportunion iDM Matrei drew against their opponents in the first leg on Friday and managed a 1-1 draw. The second leg took place in the Cteam Tauernstadion and was watched by around 1,450 spectators. Here Matrei showed a unified team performance, and in the 80th minute Hannes Wibmer sent a header from Alexander Wibmer into the net to make it 1-0. Captain Panzl also received a yellow-red card in this game, but Luca Ronacher was able to finally determine the winner in the 90th minute with a 2-0 lead.

Matrei not only reported back with their home game win, but also showed that the club is ready to compete in the Carinthian league after last season, in which they had to learn a lot.
