Rapid loses chances and remains pale in the 0-0 draw against Altach!

In an exciting but goalless Bundesliga game, SK Rapid and SCR Altach drew 0-0 on August 17, 2025. In front of almost 18,000 spectators in the Allianz Stadium, Rapid missed out on their third win in the third game of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. The encounter was characterized by exciting offensive actions, but despite a superiority in statistics, the hosts were unable to hit the net.

The statistics of the game show that Rapid had 54% possession and made a total of 12 shots, compared to 11 shots from Altach. What was particularly striking were the great chances that Rapid won 3-1. However, Ercan Kara was denied a penalty in stoppage time by Altach's goalkeeper Dejan Stojanovic, adding to the frustration in the Rapid camp.

Coach reactions and strategic adjustments

Coach Peter Stöger said after the game that a 0-0 could be seen as okay because the chances were not taken. He also noted that the team was less dominant in the first half of the game, which could be attributed to the previous, intense 120-minute game in the Conference League qualifiers. Goalkeeper Niklas Hedl confirmed the team's tiredness and also praised the effort of his teammates.

Due to the weak first half, Stöger made adjustments at halftime, which showed an improvement in the second half, but did not lead to the desired efficiency. Another problem for Rapid was the injury to central defender Jean Marcelin, who had to be substituted after just 24 minutes. Stöger fears a longer downtime and emphasizes the importance of the availability of his players with a view to the upcoming playoff first leg in Györ.

The look into the future

Despite the disappointing result, the team also showed positive approaches, but noted that the exploitation of opportunities in particular urgently needs to be improved in order to be successful in the league. The next goal is to prepare for the upcoming games, while those responsible will closely monitor the situation surrounding the injured players.
