Violent attacks on Israeli fans: court issues verdicts!

A serious chapter of anti-Semitic violence was addressed in Amsterdam on Tuesday when a Dutch court sentenced five men. They were part of a group that brutally attacked Israeli fans in November after a soccer match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax Amsterdam. The men were found guilty, among other things, of attacking and beating Maccabi supporters on the street and of inciting violence in chat groups. These offensive actions resulted in five Israelis being hospitalized with serious injuries, while up to 30 others received minor injuries. Such incidents have been condemned by numerous countries, including the Netherlands, as a clear expression of anti-Semitism laola1.at.

The judge found that the violence occurred in response to an online call for aggression against Jews. There were also reports of Maccabi fans chanting anti-Semitic slogans and military attacks on Arabs before the game. Videos from the time show frightening scenes of violence, with individuals rioting in tram cars and shouting anti-Semitic slogans. While the court ruled, some of the accused men were convicted of both physical violence and aiding and abetting violence CNN reported. One person was also found guilty of making derogatory remarks against Jews. Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof described the riots as “outright anti-Semitism,” adding to existing concerns about the rise in anti-Semitic incidents worldwide.
