GAK celebrates staying in the league: party on Mallorca and beer on the bus!
In an exciting final game of the season, GAK secured relegation in the Austrian Bundesliga. The team played against WSG Tirol in Tyrol on May 23, 2025 and secured their stay in the league with a 1-1 draw. The decisive point was achieved without any help from other teams, which makes GAK's achievement even more impressive. Coach Ferdinand Feldhofer, who took office at the beginning of the qualifying group, could be proud of his team.
The game was marked by an early goal from GAK: Dominik Frieser scored in the 25th minute after a cross from Christian Lichtenberger and thus scored his first league goal of the season. Shortly after taking the lead, Stefan Skrbo equalized for the hosts in the 29th minute. The GAK was dependent on support, especially if Klagenfurt or Altach won, but only had a small chance of relegation of two percent.
Celebration mood after the game
After the final whistle there was an exuberant atmosphere in the team. Lukas Graf announced on the bus that beer would be drunk and anyone who didn't want to drink had to stay outside. The players are also planning to hold a three-day celebration in Mallorca. Dominik Frieser, the goalscorer, didn't miss this and announced that he would "cleanly put one in".
The last game was an important moment not only for the players, but also for captain Marco Perchtold, who was making his last appearance. He managed to make a significant contribution to saving the tie over time and thus creating the basis for the upcoming celebration.
