Merz praises Israel: Dirty work for us” in the Iran conflict!

Chancellor Friedrich Merz praised Israel for its attack on Iran during the G7 summit in Canada. Merz spoke on ZDF on the sidelines of the summit, where he sharply criticized the Iranian leadership and emphasized that the mullahs' regime had "brought death and destruction to the world." He stated that the events of October 7 would not have been possible without the Iranian regime in Tehran. Merz also mentioned Iran's supply of drones to Russia, increasing concerns about Iran's destabilizing role in the Middle East.

“Israel does the dirty work for us,” said Merz, who at the same time expressed respect for the Israeli army and government for their courage. He warned that without the current military pressure on Iran, the regime's terror may have continued. These statements reflect Germany's growing support for Israel in the confrontation with Iran, which is also reflected in the reactions of other G7 states.

The situation in the Middle East

After the escalation of military conflicts, US President Donald Trump has not yet decided on US military intervention on Israel's side. Merz noted that there is no final decision from the American government in the near future. Politically, the mullahs' regime's willingness to return to the negotiating table is seen as crucial. The latest attacks were followed by expectations of further developments, but Merz emphasized that everything now had to wait and see.

The situation remains tense as Iran has reportedly fired around 30 rockets at Israel, most of which were intercepted, but some impacts were also reported. Israel responded by destroying several military targets in Iran and reporting the death of a senior Revolutionary Guard commander. Combat aircraft and military facilities have been intensively targeted, increasing the risks of further escalation in the region.

International and regional reactions

The G7 countries support Israel and view Iran as a source of instability in the Middle East. In response to the aggressive Israeli attacks, several Arab states and Turkey are calling for a ceasefire and condemning Israel's actions. Jordan's King Abdullah II warned that the conflict could spread beyond the Middle East.

In addition, the pressure on the Iranian regime is evident. Israel's transport minister reports that the first Israelis stranded abroad due to the war with Iran will be flown home starting Wednesday. Around 150,000 Israelis are currently stuck abroad while holidaymakers are being informed about rescue flights from various European cities.

The US State Department, meanwhile, has said the US embassy in Jerusalem is unable to evacuate Americans and remains closed, adding to concerns about the security situation in the region. How the situation develops remains to be seen as pressure on the Iranian regime increases from both the G7 and the US.

In this context, Merz explains that a US deployment decision will be considered as a possibility in the coming days and that both the international community and the G7 countries will work closely together to promote stabilizing measures in the Middle East.
