Vienna Market Office uncovers price fraud in furniture stores!

Something exciting is happening at the Vienna Naschmarkt: The market office is now looking for new stall holders! According to MeinBezirk, many applications were received before the official advertisement even started. Suppliers of a wide variety of products are being sought for eleven marketplaces, including meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. Particularly noteworthy is the opportunity to run your own bakery, including a show bakery with a workshop kitchen. The application deadline ends on February 13th, and those who receive acceptance can be part of this legendary market for up to 20 years.

Controls and price regulations

At the same time, the market office in Vienna has also taken action to check compliance with the “Price Labeling Act”, which will be tightened in 2022. Alexander Hengl, spokesman for the market office, explained in a report by ORF Vienna that many furniture stores do not adhere to the requirements. Out of 122 checks carried out, price overruns were found in around a third of the shops, with some of the reduced prices being higher than the previous sales price. Traders who violate the regulations could face fines of up to 1,450 euros.

The Market Office also clarifies that for discounts, both the current and previous lowest prices within the last 30 days must be stated. This is to protect consumers from misleading pricing information. Anyone who has doubts about the price should not be afraid to ask or contact the market office, Hengl continued.
