A tragic event shook the municipality of Herzogenburg when a stable fire broke out on Sunday, January 12th, around 4:20 p.m. Hundreds of firefighters were mobilized to fight the flames that quickly got out of control. According to a report by Mein district, 66 sheep were in the stable at the time of fire. Desperate attempts from two women to save animals ended tragically: only four sheep could be brought to safety, while 62 animals fell victim to the flames. Both women suffered minor injuries and had to be treated for flue gas poisoning. The extinguishing work took several hours, the barn was completely destroyed. The police have started the investigation into the cause of the fire, but have not yet been known to exact details.
