Scandal in Tyrol: 93-year-old fights for illegally debited money!
A frightening incident from Tyrol is making headlines: 93-year-old Margareta M. had to move to a retirement home for health reasons. But instead of alleviating their worries, the move brought additional problems. Despite a timely deregistration from ORF-Beitragsservice GmbH, an amount of 36.80 euros continued to be debited from the elderly lady's account. The son, Walter M., describes the situation as untenable: “All other providers paid the money back within five days – except the ORF!”
The M. family acted quickly and submitted all the necessary documents to terminate the mother's obligation to pay fees. A first call to the ORF contribution service initially gave rise to hope when they confirmed the unauthorized deduction and promised a refund. But waiting for change proved frustrating. A further call also only revealed that the repayment would only be made after a 56-day period had expired. ORF-Beitragsservice GmbH explained that this was a requirement of the SEPA direct debit system. Walter M. is horrified by the customer-unfriendly practice: “It’s unbelievable how we were treated.” He recommends that other affected parties initiate the chargeback directly through their bank in order to quickly get their money back exxpress.at reported.
Attack with consequences
Another alarming news from Tyrol is the robbery of a cashless bank. The perpetrators are still at large and the police are asking the public for any information. Such incidents shine a harsh light on security in banks, especially at a time when less and less cash is being used. The local community is on alert as authorities exhaust all options to catch the perpetrators tirol.ORF.at reported.
