Infant dead in Heringen: Police arrest suspects!

A shocking incident occurred in the small German town of Heringen: the police found a dead baby in a freezer in a residential building. The alarm was raised on Saturday, February 22nd after a tip-off about the gruesome discovery was received. A 34-year-old woman was subsequently arrested and is now suspected of manslaughter, as the East Hesse police announced. A 40-year-old man who was also in the apartment building was also arrested, but was later released because there was no urgent suspicion against him, reports crown.

The investigation was furthered by a forensic examination of the infant, which indicated a possible homicide. On Thursday evening, February 26th, a major police operation, in which Hessian special forces were also involved, led to the 34-year-old's arrest. She will be brought before the judge in Bad Hersfeld on Friday afternoon to decide on further steps. Police secured the property to search for further evidence, such as EAST HESSEN|NEWS reported.

The mayor of Heringen, Daniel Iliev (SPD), was shocked by what happened: “I am shocked and struggling for words,” he said and expressed his respect for the emergency services. As the investigation continues, the city remains reeling from the tragedy. Prosecutors and police are expected to release more information to clarify the circumstances surrounding the infant's death.
