Raser chaos in Styria: Police stop over 200 traffic offenders!
In Styria, Austria, a comprehensive police check against the so-called Road Runner scene took place on April 18, 2025. This spontaneous gathering of around 150 vehicles led to a massive operational action by the Styrian police, which was led by Colonel Klaus Rexeis, the deputy head of the Styria State Transport Department. The controls took place between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. and should prevent the numerous traffic violations that occur frequently at such events. A total of 219 advertisements were filed and 37 organ mandates were issued, which illustrates the determination of the authorities to act against traffic offenses.
The police also performed 164 alcohol findings among the participants of the event. This measure is particularly relevant, since driving under the influence of alcohol not only endangers other road users, but can also result in serious legal consequences. According to the ADAC, driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.5 per thousand is already an administrative offense that can be punished with a fine of up to 500 euros and a month of driving ban.
Worrying speed violation
A central problem with the meeting was the highly excessive speed registered by many drivers. The police documented speeds of 181 km/h in a 130 km/h area and 151 km/h in a 100 km/h range. In view of these frightening numbers, it is not surprising that measures have been taken, including the acceptance of the license plate boards from two vehicles due to danger. This drastic measure shows the determination of the police to minimize the risk of public security.
A driver also had to refrain from the wheel due to alcohol. This procedure corresponds to the current regulations and reminds that young drivers in particular are subject to an absolute ban on alcohol until the age of 21 and beginners during the trial period.
Reinforcement of the police presence
The focus campaign of the Styrian police is part of a wider strategy to counter the Road Runner events. It is assumed that such promotions will take place more often in the future to ensure safety in road traffic and to proceed against dangerous driving behavior. The constant presence of the police could possibly cause prevention and caused drivers to act more responsibly.
In view of the importance of these measures and the reactions of the population, it remains to be seen how the Road Runner scene will react to these operations. However, it is clear that the dangers of the excessive pace area and alcoholization at the wheel must be taken seriously in order to prevent tragic accidents.
Today's events can be interpreted as a clear indication that the authorities are willing to act against risky driving behavior and thus set a sign of traffic safety. Further information on the legal consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol can be found in the ADAC.
