Violence at Krampus Runs: Shocking Attacks on Tradition Bearers!

The emerging violence against Krampus, originally intended as an aspect of traditional customs, has recently increased alarmingly. As the “Krone” reported, there have been several recent incidents that show the brutal events during Krampus runs in a new light. A 23-year-old Krampus runner was attacked by an apparently drunk spectator during a parade in Spittal an der Drau. The 22-year-old attacker hit the runner's mask with the palm of his hand, causing facial injuries and a hospital stay. The incident took place on November 30 and highlights the dangerous situation the participants found themselves in as they take to the streets with joy and tradition.

But that wasn't everything! Another incident occurred at the Perchtenlauf in Moosburg, where a 24-year-old Krampus was also attacked by a previously unknown spectator. This tore at the Krampus's horns and caused the participant to lose consciousness. He had to receive medical treatment, which revealed another dimension of the violent offensive. The police have now arrested a suspect, a 55-year-old who is also accused of damaging a Krampus mask. Such acts do not go without consequences: the perpetrator now faces legal action.
