In Wardenburg-Höven, a devastating fire at a riding facility took a tragic turn on the evening of December 6th. The fire brigade was alerted at 10:48 p.m. when the large riding hall with stables burst into flames. When they arrived, the emergency services discovered that the fire was already in full swing and immediate measures had to be taken to bring the fourteen horses on the farm to safety. Unfortunately, despite all their efforts, one horse could not be saved and died from smoke inhalation NDR reported.
Extensive fire operations and significant property
The extinguishing work lasted until around 6 a.m. and required the deployment of around 120 to 140 firefighters from various surrounding fire departments. The riding arena, which covered an area of around 750 square meters, burned down completely. The fire also spread to an adjacent residential building, which fortunately was unoccupied, according to the police.
