Fan war in Udine: Salzburg hooligans convicted after violent attack!
Last Saturday there were dramatic riots in Udine when supporters of the Italian football club Udinese Calcio, supported by fans of Austria Salzburg, violently stopped a train carrying Tifosi from rival club Venezia FC. This violent confrontation, which took place after the Udinese-Venezia game (3-2), ended with the arrest of several people. Six Austria Salzburg fans were brought to trial and sentenced to prison terms oe24 reported.
In order to force the train, in which around 300 Venezia fans and 130 uninvolved passengers were sitting, to stop, the attackers lit fires on the tracks and threw stones at the carriages. This led to panicked scenes as many Venezia hooligans stormed off the train while Salzburg fans supported the hooligans. The police were quickly alerted and prevented the confrontation from escalating. The incidents had far-reaching consequences, including a stadium ban of five years for those convicted Krone.at reported.
Reactions and consequences
The explosion of violence led to the arrests of a total of eight people. The allegations range from violent disruption of rail traffic to resistance to the police. The police chief of Udine, Domenico Farinacci, expressed concern about the incidents and stressed that security measures must respond to the increasing tensions during football matches. In addition, the Italian government is expected to demand severe punishments for those involved, making addressing the consequences of this violence a matter of national importance.
The long-standing “fan friendship” between the supporters of Udinese and Austria Salzburg is now under a bad light. The Austria Salzburg club strongly condemned the violence and recalled that the sporting spirit and the nonchalance with which violence is viewed are endangered by the actions of the fans. Despite the relationship going back over 25 years, it is clear that such incidents cannot be tolerated.
