Drug ring COCO-Taxi” smashed in Vienna – police triumph!

In the fight against drug crime, the Vienna police and the special unit WEGA have carried out a serious blow against the dangerous “COCO-Taxi” drug ring. This criminal group, active since 2019, used taxis to transport and distribute cocaine. During the months-long investigation, it was discovered that at least 3.6 kilograms of cocaine were being sold illegally through rental cars and taxi rides, such as kosmo.at reported. The police not only confiscated drugs, but also two taxis and a four-figure amount of cash in typical dealer denominations.

Arrests and Seizures

On December 6th, the police arrested the last of a total of six suspects, who included both Austrians and foreigners. The group consisted of men between the ages of 35 and 58, including two Austrians, an Egyptian and three Nigerians. These men operated by making drug deliveries through the taxi business, often while driving, with the driver sharing in the profits. The conspicuous graffiti designation “COCO-Taxi” can be found on walls and bridges throughout the city, unfortunately more as a reminder of their illegal trade than as a symbol of the service, such as oe24.at determines.

The arrests and the evidence seized are a significant success for the police and send a clear message to drug crime in Vienna. While some of the suspects have already been sentenced to prison terms, it remains to be seen what further measures the judiciary will take to counter these illegal activities.
