In Flachgau, Salzburg, a 20-year-old moped driver was stopped at a police checkpoint on Monday evening, September 15, 2025. The moped driver was unable to produce a valid badge and had also lost his driver's license. A rapid drug test revealed cannabis consumption, which led to a district doctor determining that he was unfit to drive. The check took place in Seekirchen and is part of a larger police commitment to road safety. In this context, it is important to emphasize that driving while under the influence of illegal drugs is not only a misdemeanor, but can also have serious consequences. Fake cop incident
Parallel to this incident, another worrying case was recently reported in the region. On July 2nd, a 45-year-old from Salzburg posed as a police officer in Lamprechtshausen and carried out traffic checks on his own initiative. He stopped seven moped drivers and identified himself with a business card. He also had a knife with him and took photos of the young people's registration forms and moped ID cards. Although he threatened to file charges, he did not impose any penalties. This suspicion was investigated when a juvenile identified the behavior as suspicious and collected the necessary information. The police were able to identify the man based on his license plate number, and he is being reported for several offenses, as sn.at reports.
These two incidents highlight the challenges police face in the area of road safety. While police checks are necessary to deter fraudulent activity and remove dangerous drivers, the distinction between lawful and unlawful checks is crucial to public safety.
