Double murder in the Mühlviertel: Jäger apparently died on the day of the crime!
A shocking double murder in the Mühlviertel is keeping the Salzburg region in suspense. On October 28th of this year, a 56-year-old hunter, in an act of revenge, killed two men who were in conflict with him over hunting issues. Within just one and a half hours he shot a mayor in Fraunschlag and a former hunting leader in Arnreit with well-aimed shots in the head. After the bloody acts, the perpetrator fled in his vehicle, which was eventually discovered on November 2nd in a forest near the crime scene. These dramatic events led to a state of emergency in the area as it was believed the gunman might have holed up somewhere, prompting a large-scale police search.
Investigations reveal time of death
Now an insectological analysis - the so-called entomology, which studies the life cycle and behavior of insects - shows that the hunter apparently died on the day of the crime itself. According to the preliminary report from the Linz public prosecutor's office, the results of which were published on Monday, the man probably took his own life on October 28th. It was found that the lying time of the body was about five days, which rules out that he died shortly before his body was found. An important piece of evidence was the examination of the insect larvae that were secured at the crime scene and on his body.
The fact that the hunter's body was only found five days after the murders caused fear and unrest in the region. Scores of people had to be placed under police protection and public events were canceled while police searched the surrounding forests for the suspected murderer. Initial reports said the hunter may have been able to escape for days after the crime. But the new findings from the autopsy and entomological analysis now shed a different light on the entire situation was reported in advance.
The hunter's cause of death was determined in the autopsy, but the exact timing remained unclear until the publication of this analysis. The report also showed that the perpetrator's getaway car must have been standing in the forest for a long time and was not just discovered shortly before it was found, which made the search for the man who haunted the woods like a ghost even more dramatic. This was also reported in a report by Salzburg24 documented.
