On August 20, 2025, the Vogelweidpark in Vienna-Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus became the scene of a brutal attack. A group of five young men attacked an 18-year-old, beating him and choking him until he lost consciousness. The victim suffered serious injuries and had to be taken to hospital immediately. The Vienna police have now presented the first results of the investigation and have partially clarified the incident.
In the subsequent investigation, the day after the attack, officers identified a 15-year-old Romanian as the first suspect. He was taken into custody on the instructions of the Vienna public prosecutor's office, but refused to provide information about his accomplices. According to further investigation results, which also included evaluations from social networks, two additional suspects were arrested: a 16-year-old Russian and another 15-year-old Romanian. During these measures, several house searches were carried out in Vienna, during which electronic devices, especially cell phones, were confiscated.
Fugitive suspects
In addition to the young people who have already been arrested, a search is currently underway for two other suspected accomplices who are currently on the run. These two suspects are only 16 and 13 years old. The investigators are also examining whether the arrested young people may also be responsible for other unsolved violent crimes, which further underlines the seriousness of the situation.
The incident has sparked public concern and raises questions about the safety of young people in public spaces.
