Bloody night in Oberstaufen: stabbing with SEK deployment!
On May 20, 2025, there was a knife attack shortly before midnight in Oberstaufen, Paul-Rieder-Straße. A 30-year-old man attacked a 26-year-old man and caused him minor injuries. After the attack, the perpetrator fled to a neighboring apartment and initially remained on the run.
Because the suspect was still considered armed, a special operations team (SEK) was requested. They were finally able to arrest the man without any further injuries, but there is currently no precise information about the attacker's alcoholism, which, according to initial reports, could have played a role, as vol.at reports.
More incidents
Another brutal incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the center of Schliersee, where a 49-year-old knocked over and seriously injured an 84-year-old. The senior's serious but not life-threatening head injuries once again illustrate the worrying situation regarding acts of violence in Germany. The 49-year-old also fled to his apartment after the attack.
When he was arrested, the suspect threatened to use a knife. This also led to the requirement for a SEK. During the arrest, the man stabbed a SEK officer several times, but fortunately he was uninjured. The 49-year-old was slightly injured during the arrest and was also admitted to a psychiatric hospital after an investigating judge issued a detention order. The police are currently investigating assault and attempted murder, as Focus reports.
Increasing knife attacks in Germany
The background to the attacks often remains unclear and reflects that the number of knife attacks in Germany has increased alarmingly. According to police crime statistics, there were almost 1,500 more knife attacks in 2023 alone compared to the previous year. A particularly tragic incident occurred two weeks ago in Mannheim, where an Afghan refugee stabbed a police officer who died in hospital two days later. In addition, on the same day, a 27-year-old was arrested in Saxony-Anhalt who had previously seriously injured two people after stabbing a man, which further illustrates the development, as Statista shows.
The increasing willingness to use violence and the increasing number of knife attacks raise questions about security in German cities and require urgent measures from the authorities to protect the population.
