Bloody attack in Vienna: 18-year-old seriously injured with knife!
A threatening incident occurred on Wednesday evening in the 22nd district of Vienna when a suspected drunk man attacked two runners at around 8:45 p.m. The attacker started with verbal attacks before injuring an 18-year-old in the upper body with a knife. The injured person immediately received first aid from a WEGA medic and was then taken to the shock room of a hospital. The perpetrator was able to flee in different directions with an accomplice, while the police from the Donaustadt City Police Command and WEGA initiated a comprehensive manhunt. So far these measures have been unsuccessful, but the investigations continue to be intensive. The police accept tips from the public, even anonymously, at all police stations.
On the same evening, another incident also occurred in Vienna-Favoriten. In an argument between several men, a 23-year-old was stabbed, while a 24-year-old was kicked and punched. The alleged perpetrators fled before the police arrived, and the exact reasons for the argument are still unclear. Both injured people received emergency medical care and were taken to a hospital. According to information, her life is not in danger. In this case too, investigations are underway.
Rising violent crime
The incidents take place in a context of increasing violent crime. According to the Report from the Federal Criminal Police Office In 2023, recorded crimes increased by 5.5% to 5,940,667 cases. This is the highest level since 2016. Particularly alarming is the increase in violent crime, which reached 214,099 cases, an increase of 8.6% compared to the previous year.
Initial analyzes show that several factors are responsible for this increase: increased mobility after the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, economic and social burdens, particularly inflation, and a high immigration rate. The crime clearance rate was 58.4% in 2023, which represents a slight increase compared to 2022.
With these alarming statistics and recent incidents, it is clear that the security situation in Vienna must be taken seriously in order to stop the increasing violent crime.
