Today, February 7, 2025, the new alcohol ban comes into force at Franz-Jonas-Platz in Floridsdorf. How oe24.at reported that the relevant information signs had already been put up during the night. This makes the public consumption of alcohol in this area an administrative offense that can be punished with heavy fines, possibly amounting to several hundred euros.
The forbidden zone extends over the entire Franz-Jonas-Platz, parts of Schloßhofer Straße, the Rechte Nordbahnstraße, Pius-Parsch-Platz, as well as the green areas along the railway embankment and the Franklinstraße pedestrian zone. The Viennese authorities emphasize that the alcohol ban is a measure to increase the safety and attractiveness of the area around Floridsdorf train station. Mayor Michael Ludwig said: “Our public spaces are there for everyone, not for a few who disturb others’ sense of security.” The enforcement of these rules should also be interpreted as a sign of respect for coexistence in the city. A similar alcohol ban has been in place at Praterstern since 2018, and significant successes have been recorded in increasing public safety.
