Alcohol at the wheel: Police increase controls during the carnival time!

The Tyrolean police increasingly carried out controls in road traffic in the carnival week between February 27 and March 4, 2025, with the focus on alcohol and drugs. Despite the discipline of many drivers, the extensive 7,000 alkot tests performed gave alarming numbers: 137 people were suitable for driving. With 58 drivers who drank over 0.8 per thousand, and 39 others, in which addictive substances were detected, 66 driver's licenses had to be temporarily collected because their onward journey was prohibited. Colonel Enrico Leitgeb, head of the state traffic department, emphasized that the controls were intensified due to the alcohol accidents already recorded in the first quarter of 2025. The carnival weekend was particularly worrying, on which three accidents with four injuries took place in which alcohol played a role. This was reported by the Gailtal Journal .

At the same time, the Bern cantonal police carried out a targeted control in the Hodlerstrasse location on Sunday morning to check the driving ability of the vehicle drivers. Out of 44 controlled drivers, 13 were in a non -traveling condition. Eight people drove alcoholized and one person was under the influence of drugs. Among them, a driver also had no valid driver's ID card. In three cases, the driver's license was withdrawn and temporarily secured in five others. In addition, the police found a technical lack of a vehicle and was able to arrest a person who was advertised for arrest. These incidents show the urgent necessity of such controls, as well as the Berner Zeitung reported.
