Vienna in election fever: Who has the best chance of winning?

Wien, Österreich - Today, the Viennese are on the threshold of a decisive election period. In autumn 2025, the Vienna election will call the citizens to the urns, and the city government is already taking measures to position itself cheaply. According to Krone there is a clear strategy of the city government to design their most important projects so that they appear in the best light to win the votes.

The last state election 2020 brought a dramatic turn. The Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), under the leadership of Mayor Michael Ludwig, was once again able to assert itself as the strongest force with 41.6 % of the votes. The Greens and the new Austrian movement (NEOS) were also surprisingly scored, while the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) suffered a devastating setback, as wikipedia reported.

Development of the parties and turnout

The turnout was only 65.27 %, which is worrying, especially since it was still above the low of 60.81 % in the 2005 election. However, the postal voting experienced a maximum of 28.34 %, a legacy of Corona pandemic, which made voters put their votes on by post for security reasons. After the election, the SPÖ decided to record coalition negotiations with the NEOS and categorically categorized cooperation with the Greens and other smaller parties.

A 5 %hurdle will apply to the upcoming state and municipal council elections, and various new parties and platforms, including Heinz-Christian Strache's Team HC Strache, are planning the race for the votes. The political landscape of Vienna is therefore overshadowed by internal struggles and new start -ups, while the city government continues to work on its strategy for gaining voters.
