On February 24, 2025, a voter flow analysis by Infratest dimap shows significant changes in voter behavior in Germany. While the AfD gained the most votes, traditional parties such as the SPD and the Greens recorded massive losses. Fortunately, the CDU/CSU can stabilize. Experts analyze the causes and consequences of these election postponements.

Landslide increase in voters: AfD beats everyone!

In the 2025 federal election, the AfD celebrated a dramatic election victory and was able to enjoy 4.38 million more votes than in the last election. The party won 1.86 million votes from new voters, winning more from this group of voters than any other party. In addition, 910,000 votes went from the CDU, 800,000 from the FDP, 680,000 from the SPD and 100,000 from the Left Party to the AfD, as oe24 reported.

For the SPD, however, the result was catastrophic: it lost a total of 3.32 million votes, including 1.81 million to the Union and 680,000 to the AfD. The decline was also significant for the Greens, who had to cast 550,000 votes. Their main losses came from the Left Party (600,000), the Union (390,000) and 90,000 votes that now went to the AfD. In the voter flow analysis, the picture of a shift dominates, with the Greens and the SPD losing large parts of their voters to the AfD spiegel.de reported.

A telling trend is that the Left Party also recorded an increase of 1.17 million votes, mainly from the Greens and the SPD camp, while the FDP is struggling with a decline of 2.68 million votes. In this way, voters are sending a strong signal for a rethink in Germany's political landscape.
