Wöllersdorf: Finally new A2 plant, less traffic jam for commuters!
Wöllersdorf: Finally new A2 plant, less traffic jam for commuters!
Wöllersdorf, a municipality in Lower Austria, receives a new driveway to the A2 through the agreement with the state of Lower Austria. This measure should not only relieve traffic, but also eliminate the traffic jams that have been going on for years. The construction of a bypass in the roundabout, which is known as a needle for regional commuter transport, is also tackled. The residents repeatedly expressed their dissatisfaction with the inadequate traffic situation in the region. In order to implement the plans for the bypass, there have been repeated inconsistencies between the municipality and the country since 2019. The Wöllersdorf municipal administration demanded that other roundabouts be expanded at the same time.
With the new mayor Florian Pfaffelmaier (ÖVP), the possibility of releasing the required area were now available. Cooperation with the state of Lower Austria promises a rapid implementation of the project, which should result in a fundamental improvement in the traffic situation in the region. The new driveway will also play an important role in relieving the heavily frequented roads that serve the commuters to work and back every day.
renovation of the A2 between Wöllersdorf and Wiener Neustadt
In parallel to these news, the renovation of the A2 between Wöllersdorf and Wiener Neustadt runs, which began on March 3, 2025. This construction phase extends from the Wöllersdorf junction to the Wiener Neustadt West junction. The road towards Graz will be renewed in 2025, while the road will be renovated in the direction of Vienna in 2026. All six lanes are available during the construction work, whereby the traffic routing is designed according to the 5+1 principle.- Three lanes towards Vienna remain on the original directional lane.
- Two lanes for the direction of Graz are moved to the Vienna directional lane.
- A lane for the direction of Graz remains on the original directional lane.
In addition to the renewal of the lanes, several measures are planned to improve the transport infrastructure. This includes the repair of the access and departure of the Wiener Neustadt West junction, the renovation of a total of eleven bridges along the route as well as the construction of new drainage systems and water protection systems.
Federal Transport Infrastructure and Mobility Plan 2040
The need for action in the field of infrastructure is not only noticeable locally in Wöllersdorf. In Germany, a new federal traffic and mobility plan is being worked on, which should apply by 2040. The federal government has decided to develop a plan based on new criteria and aim at an integrated, comprehensive and targeted planning approach. This mobility plan will take into account all traffic operators and funds in order to promote climate -friendly mobility and to address existing challenges such as loss of income through the increasing use of electric vehicles.
The plan provides for the publicity of the public and the determination of clear goals for transport system development. Attention is paid to the continuous evaluation and adaptation of the planning and the creation of synergies is required for various regions and cities. The findings from the current federal traffic route planning are a step in the right direction to sustainably improve mobility in Germany and beyond. After all, a needs -based review and adaptation of the planning is crucial for the future of traffic routes.
The developments in Wöllersdorf and along the A2 show how important it is to plan and carry out infrastructure projects in good time in order to meet the growing requirements of road users and to increase the quality of life of the residents.
