Vienna Symphony: Festive Advent concert in St. Stephen's Cathedral!
On Friday, December 6, 2024, there was a magical Advent concert by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in the impressive St. Stephen's Cathedral. This festive event, which awakens the anticipation of Christmas, will be broadcast in a recording on ORF III on Sunday, December 22nd at 8:15 p.m. This year the musical direction is under the talented Stéphane Denève and the program offers a diverse repertoire ranging from the timeless sounds of Mozart to touching melodies from John Williams' film music. Highlights include “Ave Maria” by Camille Saint-Saëns and Christmas classics such as “O du glücke”. As the APA OTS reported, the concert is traditionally broadcast during prime time as part of the Christmas preparations.
The concert not only brings together outstanding musical performances, but also a top-class cast of soloists. In addition to the Wiener Singverein, the internationally recognized soloists Rosa Feola and Kate Lindsey delight the audience with their voices. Jan Nast, the artistic director of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, emphasized that this concert embodies a distinctive combination of music and tradition. “With our Advent concert in Vienna’s landmark, we are creating an unforgettable experience,” says Nast. Cathedral priest Toni Faber added: “Advent is a sign of growing light.” Such words are intended to bring light into this contemplative time and spread joy. With this tradition, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and St. Stephen's Cathedral send a strong sign of solidarity during Advent, as well Vienna Symphony Orchestra reported.
