Viennese government plans to have radical reforms in minimum security!

The new Red-Pink city government in Vienna plans comprehensive reforms, which particularly affect minimum security. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling (NEOS) have announced that the focus should be increasingly on benefits, especially with regard to multi -child surcharges and needs. This is part of a comprehensive package of measures that aims to ensure equal treatment of all children and a stronger consideration of family allowance. According to OE24, there are also to be added to a nationwide solution via the AMS's own measures.

During a discussion at “Vienna today” on ORF, Ludwig and Emmerling emphasized the need to stabilize the Vienna budget without endangering the economic situation. Ludwig explained that additional impulses are required for the business location. Vague announcements were made to other savings plans. Emmerling defended these formulations with the indication that they had met 97 percent of the goals of the previous program.

conversion of the city administration and budget reservations

The planned savings should be implemented primarily by checking the funding and administrative costs. Ludwig stated that all projects, including the 365 euro annual card, could be put to the test. It was also decided to increase the number of members in the city senate to 13 to ensure a red-pink majority. However, this decision is criticized by Ludwig with a reference to former government sizes. He also plans to abolish city councilors in the long term.

As part of their coalition negotiations that have been running since the beginning of May, the SPÖ and the NEOS presented their common coalition pact. The presentation recently took place under the direction of Mayor Michael Ludwig and Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling. The aim is to preserve Vienna as a livable, affordable and climate -based location. For this purpose, a 191-page government program was created, which includes various reforms in the areas of work, business, education and traffic, as the Kurier.

focus on integration and education

A central component of the program is the reform of the minimum security, which aims to accelerate integration into the world of work. Ludwig and Emmerling also decided to introduce an "integration code" to offer a clear structure for living together in the city. Furthermore, measures against child and youth crime are intended, which include the introduction of "orientation helpers".

Significant reforms are also considered in the healthcare system. These include the expansion of outpatient offers and regional health centers as well as the digital transformation in the health sector. For educational institutions, a mandatory summer program for schoolchildren who have special needs is sought.

The city government therefore faces major challenges, but has also set itself ambitious goals in order to counter the tense budget situation with structural reforms. A first step is to consolidate the new government, which is planned for June 10th.
