Viennese environmental protection projects win the state award for climate adjustment

The city of Vienna recently received two significant awards that underline the progress of the city in the field of climate protection. The “Wiener Wäldchen” project was chosen as a winner in the “Heat” category at the Austrian State Prize for Climate Change Adaptation, also known as Clia. At the same time, the Viennese city gardens in the "dryness" category were able to secure third place, which further emphasizes the innovative strength and commitment of the city in questions of environmental protection.

The "Wiener Wäldchen" is a remarkable concept in which small forests with densely planted, fast -growing trees and shrubs are created on limited urban areas. These mini forests are not only a feast for the eyes, but also extremely functional. Through the evaporation cooling, they contribute to improving the microclimate in the city and promoting biodiversity. Since the first planting in Margareten in 2022, six locations have been created in Vienna, and more have already been planned.

Innovative approaches to climate adjustment

In his response to the awards, Vienna's climate council was very pleased with Jürgen Czernohorszky: "The award for two Viennese projects is an important evidence that we take the right steps in Vienna in the area of climate change adjustment," he commented. He also emphasized the recognition for the Viennese city gardens, which, with their drought-resistant grass and perennial beds, also make a valuable contribution in the fight against rising temperatures

The award -winning projects are not only important in terms of sustainability, but also as a source of motivation for future initiatives. Czernohorszky emphasizes: "For us, the prices are an incentive for us to promote the climate change adaptation of our city with further innovative ideas, Vienna should also be a good place for our children and grandchildren." This illustrates the striving for the city to develop long -term solutions in order to meet the upcoming challenges of climate change.

The "Clia" State Prize, which is awarded annually by the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection and the Climate and Energy Fund, recognizes particularly innovative and sustainable concepts for adapting to climate change. With these awards, the importance of environmentally friendly projects in the city of Vienna is once more emphasized.
