Bricolage City: New district with a large park in the Gasometer apron
At the run -up to the Gasometer in Vienna, a newly planned district of Bricolage City is being built. The comprehensive plans for this district, which is an important part of urban development, have now passed to the next stage. With an area of 51,000 square meters, a large park is realized here, the planning phase of which is now officially beginning. This was announced by climate city council Jürgen Czernohorszky and planning city councilor Ulli Sima (both SPÖ) on Friday, October 25th.
The new district extends over the 3rd and 11th district and includes both living space and jobs for around 2,000 people. It is an idea that has existed for over 20 years. After a first draft and an urban planning plan was drawn up in 2019, the plans are now going into the active implementation phase.
sustainability in focus
The green area will provide varied offers. This includes not only play and recreational options, but also various trees, cooling elements and seating. The construction work for the park will be carried out gradually, with the first phase concentrating on 28,000 square meters. This first construction phase should begin in 2026.
A special point of planning is the focus on sustainability. Czernohorszky emphasizes that existing materials should be preserved and reused as much as possible. In order to collect the best ideas, an EU-wide competition was carried out, in which the Danish landscape architecture firm "Bogl" and the Munich office "Nuwela" emerged as winners.
Simmering district chief Thomas Steinhart (SPÖ) is optimistic about the implementation of the park. Despite the good progress, it must be noted that there are still some hurdles until the final completion, especially as far as the ownership relationships are concerned.
completion planned by 2028
The urban areas are to be processed in the first phase. Among other things, the panoramic path in the southern area is created here, the completion of which is expected to be sought for 2028. The first new living areas in Bricolage City could then also be available.
The vision for the new district includes not only a park, but also a good connection to public transport and spacious green areas. These goals are clearly defined in the urban development mission statement from 2019. In addition to the central park, office locations and various living areas are also planned.
These developments are part of an extensive urban strategy that not only improve the habitat, but also increase the quality of life of future residents. More information about the goals and plans for Bricolage City can be found in the official documents.
