New life for the Wilhelminenspital: listed pavilions secure the future

The Ottakring Clinic, formerly known as Wilhelminenspital, is faced with a comprehensive redesign. On the site, which currently has over 80 pavilions, ambitious plans are in the works to build four central buildings by the end of the 2030s. In order to enable this progress, extensive demolition is necessary, whereby the listed pavilions are preserved and integrated into the new hospital concept by 2038.

These renovation measures could be an exciting development for many of us. Due to the planned renovation, the clinic area will change significantly, but the preservation of the historical pavilions also guarantees part of the region's cultural heritage. The work is carried out under the direction of the planning team AHA - Austrian Healthcare Architects - and all of this is done, while the company in the clinic continues to maintain, as Health City Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) emphasized when the project is presented.

important innovations for patients

A central element of the structural changes is the light -flooded entrance hall of the new central building. This will not only serve as a new access to the clinic, but will also have important departments, including outpatient clinics and the emergency room. It is a step towards a more modern, more patient -friendly environment that takes into account both functionality and aesthetics.

The number of patient rooms remains constant at 800, which ensures the current capacities of the clinic. The new facilities that are integrated into the overall picture include a parent-child center and a psychiatric center. In addition, a new administration building will be built to meet the organizational requirements. The total costs of the construction projects amount to around 1.4 billion euros.

This comprehensive redesign of the Ottakring Clinic is not only an important step for the medical infrastructure in the area, but also shows the commitment to high -quality health care in the city. The City of Vienna thus sets a clear sign of the future of healthcare.
