Parking space monitoring in Vienna: New report demands basic revision
The testing of the parking space monitoring in Vienna recently attracted the attention of the Stadtklungshof (STRH). The focus is on the period from 2019 to 2022, in which the cooperation between the city of Vienna and the state police directorate was put to the test. The monitoring of the parking space was transferred to the police in 2013, while the city provides the staff to carry out these tasks.
The MA 67, responsible for the administrative tasks in the field of parking space monitoring, has faced the challenges that have arisen from this collaboration. During the review phase, it became clear that there were considerable differences between places intended and actually occupied. Especially in recent years, personnel requirements have increased due to a continuous expansion of parking space management.
bottleneck through area expansion
An essential aspect of the examination was the extensive expansion of parking space management, which came into force on March 1, 2022. This measure included areas that were not previously managed. An application to increase the posts was made in July 2021, based on a extrapolation of the number of parking space.
, however, it turned out that the actual number of parking spaces in public space was lower than originally assumed. This led to an adaptation of the personnel requirement, and the upcoming posts were successively put up. The review of the numbers revealed a discrepancy that is crucial for the efficiency of the parking space monitoring.
Need to adjust the agreement
Based on the results, the city tariff courtyard recommends revising the existing agreement between the city of Vienna and the police. This basis from 2013 must be adapted to the new challenges in order to strengthen the rights and influence of the city. A central goal is a reliable surveillance and a fair distribution of the financial burdens. This would increase efficiency and ensure that monitoring remains at a high level.
The MA 67 plans to include the results of the exam in future decisions in order to further improve the efficiency of surveillance. In cooperation with the MA 23, which takes care of business, work and statistics, as well as the MA 01, which is responsible for digital solutions, is currently being worked on increasingly on the report. A targeted conception is intended to ensure that effective measures are determined to further optimize parking space monitoring.
These developments are not only important for the city administration, but also contribute to the general improvement of the traffic and parking space situation. The city development center has given an important note that concerns both the administration and the citizens.
