Viennese politicians strengthen regional interests at the week of the regions
The 22nd edition of the week of the regions took place in Brussels last week, an important event organized by the European Committee of the Regions. Political representatives from all EU member states come together to discuss important topics. This year, around 5,000 participants took part in the two -day conference, which took place from October 7th to 10thThe participants also included two Viennese politicians who represent various responsibilities and programs. Peter Florianschütz, member of the state parliament of the SPÖ and regular member of the committee, traveled to communicate with other decision -makers and discuss strategic challenges. Florian Tschebul from the Greens took part in the "Young Elected Politician Program", an initiative that encourages young politicians to raise their voice in Europe -wide affairs.
Focus of the discussion
Florianschütz put a clear focus on residential construction and social living funding. "Vienna has established itself as a world champion in social housing. In order to secure further growth, we need additional financial resources," he emphasized during an interview. The member of the state parliament plans to contribute to positions regarding financing for the municipalities and regions in an upcoming debate with the President of the European Investment Bank.
Another central concern of Florianschütz is the creation of a common European line in terms of immigration and asylum issues. Exact coordination between national and regional levels is crucial to make progress in these complex areas. "It is a lengthy process where all levels - national, regional and European - are connected," he said.
District Council Tschebul focused on topics such as flood protection and renaturation during his participation. "We face common challenges that can only be solved at European level," he said. In plenary, he spoke about the need that communities have to be integrated into national climate plans more in order to take effective measures against extreme weather events.
These discussions illustrate the strength of cooperation among the European regions and deputies. The significance of such events lies not only in networking, but also in the development of solutions for huge challenges, in front of which many urban and regional policies are currently facing. As Tschebul noted correctly, the challenges of climate change and natural disasters require a European commitment.
This week underlines the importance that European politicians communicate with each other and learn from each other in order to find more effective and more sustainable solutions for the citizens of their regions. Further information on the results of the week of the regions is in the current reporting to be found.
