New beginnings without limits: portraits of courageous life stories
A new illustrated book entitled "Reset" takes the reader on a moving journey through the life of 17 brave people who have found their way again despite difficult circumstances. The photographer and intensive care nurse Günter Valda gave the people whom he looked after in his everyday life, the opportunity to tell their stories. Each portrait not only shows the physical change through prostheses or wheelchairs, but also the remarkable courage to live and the resilience of these people.
The stories in "Reset" are impressive and touching. 44-year-old Conny reports of her terrible fall from the balcony, which resulted in her paraplegia. Nevertheless, she found a new way of life as a successful manual. "I woke up in the intensive care unit and just thought: 'Fuck, what happened there?'" She says of the moment that changed her life. The honest stories of the protagonists show how these people deal with their reality and the challenges that the restart brings.
impressive fates and overcome obstacles
Many of the portraits are active in para-sport and have represented Austria at the latest Paralympic Games in Paris. Among them include swimmers Andreas OneA and canoeists Markus Swoboda. Romana, who lost part of her foot in a motorcycle accident at the age of 16, is also part of this book. "At first I was glad that nothing happened to my hands," she reflects while she thinks of the beginning of her hairdressing training.
Günter Valda has gained the knowledge of how quickly fates can turn into one of the greatest emergency rooms in Austria, which he describes remarkably in the prediction of "Reset". "The exciting thing in life is the narrow ridge on which we all move," he says. The return to life after a serious cut is often lengthy, but not impossible - and connections to the rehabilitation facilities of the AUVA play an important role.
Courage and adaptability despite adverse circumstances
The book project was supported by the General Accident Insurance Institute (AUVA), which shows how much its philosophy of support and rehabilitation is anchored in these stories. The general director of AUVA, Alexander Bernart, emphasizes the important message that "reset" encourages. It is about not hiding anything, but openly to show what people live through in such situations, added with the hope and the courage they radiate.
Thomas Frühwirth, another of the protagonists, speaks openly about how he dealt with the changes in his life: "I would like to accept the gift to be able to go again. But I don't change my luck. I think I was no different from the accident. These statements testify to a remarkable resilience and the ability to face the challenges of life, regardless of the adversity.
The book "Reset", published by the AUVA and published by the Kettler publisher, has 160 pages and costs 38 euros. It is not only a work of art, but also a profound testimony of the strength and adaptability of the people who, despite all the challenges, cannot be put down.
