Solemn opening: The new Christian-Broda-Platz in Mariahilf
On November 26, the redesigned Christian-Broda-Platz in Mariahilf was ceremoniously opened. District head Markus Rumelhart from the SPÖ welcomed the over 100 guests and praised the new wooden traffic signs, which were set up as part of the redesign. Punch, chestnuts and fried potatoes were ready for the numerous visitors, while the children could look forward to cotton candy and burned nuts.
The redesign of the square is considered a significant profit for the city and the district. "The former asphalt -heavy entrance into Mariahilfer Straße will soon turn into a shady, climate -in line of stay oasis," said Rumelhart. These words illustrate the vision that is behind the project, where citizens and passersby can soon linger in a greener and friendly environment.
1,300 square meters of new green space
A central feature of the redesign are the additional 1,300 square meters of green space. This area is not only a feast for the eyes, but also plays an important role for the city climate. The responsible landscape planner Carla Lo explained the ecological aspects of the new place design, which includes innovative irrigation systems and ventilation structures.
The challenge of carrying out the design on an underground car park and several subway shafts was not to be underestimated. Nevertheless, according to the district representatives, this task was successfully mastered. The filling 35 newly planted trees will not only donate shadows, but also contribute to improving air quality. This was emphasized by several present than essential for the quality of life in the city.
