Urbanize! - Festival: Ideas for a sustainable energy transition in Vienna
The Viennese “Urbanize!” Festival, which begins tomorrow, promises an exciting exploration of the energy transition. In its 15th edition, a rich program at around 40 events is offered from October 8th to 13th, organized by the association "Dérive - Association for Urban Research". The focus is on the possibilities of an ecological energy transition and its positive social effects, especially with regard to the democratization of energy generation and use.
The festival starts tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the former TU hydraulic engineering laboratory on the aspangation reasons in Vienna-Landstraße, which will serve as the central point of contact for the event. With the opening, the exhibition "How we do not) want to live" is presented in parallel, which shows artistic works on topics such as housing shortages, vacancy and neighborhood. Interested parties can take part in a construction site tour through the future “Village in the third”, a large new district that will include an estimated 2,000 apartments by 2026 and where locally produced energy plays a central role.

In the following days, the "Urbanize!" Festival offers a wide range of activities. This includes city walks, cinematic performances, workshops and much more to look at the opportunities and challenges of the energy transition from different perspectives. From creative interventions with regional plastic waste to a short film cinema, the projector of which is operated with a power -generating wheel, there is something for everyone. Self -made solar cookers and the "insect manifesto" are just a few of the attractions that are part of the program. Participation in the events is usually free of charge, but some require prior registration.
