Gang attack in Vienna-Hietzing: Police quickly intervene
An alarming incident occurred late in the afternoon in Vienna-Hietzing, which was worrying for some residents and passers-by. At around 5 p.m., at a public sports field on Red Mountain, a group of Syrian teenagers threatened them with a knife and demanded they hand over branded clothing. This threatening situation led to rapid police intervention.
While two of the young people affected were able to escape, a 14-year-old was caught and dragged onto a tram. The young man is said to have been physically attacked on the tram, which left him with minor injuries. The police forces, who acted quickly, were able to stop the tram and immediately took action against the attackers.
Arrests and injured police officers
Four young people were arrested during the police operation on the tram. An 18-year-old suspect violently resisted officers, which resulted in two police officers sustaining injuries during the operation and having to leave their duties. In addition, a 16-year-old among those arrested had dangerous items with him: a stun gun and pepper spray were seized by police officers.
The knife that may have been used in the threat was also confiscated.
