Southeast bypass: Important access to Favoriten closed for renovation
Next weekend, the Favoriten exit onto the Vienna Südosttangente (A23) will be temporarily closed. This measure is being carried out as part of renovation work on the retaining walls. The closure is planned for Saturday and Sunday, with the highway closed from at least 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Asfinag announced on Wednesday that the lighting would also be converted to energy-saving LED systems during this time.
In order to avoid possible noise nuisance for residents, the work is not scheduled to take place at night. The refurbishment is part of a wider program expected to last until the end of 2025. Over the next few years, work will be done on several retaining walls in the direction of Kaisermühlen and Altmannsdorf in order to increase their stability and safety.
Progress and further construction projects
The construction work on the retaining walls is going according to plan, reported the highway maintenance department. By the end of this year, both new edge beams and an additional facing shell are to be installed in the direction of Kaisermühlen. In 2025, the sealing, the road surface and the edge beams on the Absberg Bridge will also be renewed. These modernization measures are necessary to ensure safety and infrastructure on the A23.
The measure is not only a response to current road safety requirements, but also a step towards energy efficiency through the use of LED lighting. Such planning is central to the future of transport infrastructure in order to meet both the needs of road users and environmental requirements.
